Hi Amanda,

I noticed the links to the state-by-state access information but haven't followed them to see how accurate they are.

I agree!

The Child Welfare office has been putting out a whole lot of adoptee-rights-movement relevant stuff lately. Have you seen their state-by-state access to information and original birth certificate report?

Beautifully written Ron. I was told by my younger sister at age 31. She had just learned about my adoption from an older cousin. I told this tale to a co-worker who I would have liked to become friends with. She flat out told me that if my a-parents didn't want me to know I was adopted, my cousin had NO RIGHT to tell me. I told her that I did not agree (and excuse me for breathing, but it's my life and my adoption, right?) and that as far as I was concerned, once the "adopted child" turns 21, the gloves are off. Give the a-parents fair warning first, but set a deadline. Be prepared for backlash though.

I can name at least three dozen people who knew I was adopted. Why is it fair that THEY knew but I did not?

I discovered I was adopted just 2 months after my 40th birthday. What a rollercoaster of emotions, some times I still feel angry about it, most times I am at peace with it. I have regular weekly contact with my birth mother, and we visit each other for holidays. What an education in what aspects of myself are hereditary and what are learned. I would like to talk to people who want to discuss their experiences also. I would also like to help anyone who is at the beginning stages of the experience and try to help them through their emotions.
